SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY (SAU)
Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) is located in the heart of the capital city Dhaka covering the area of more than 87 acres. This beautiful, bucolic and serene campus is an ideal place for agricultural education and scientific research.
SAU’s history can be traced back to 1938. The term ‘Sher-e-Bangla’ comes from its founder the then chief Minister of undivided Bengal Sher-e-Bangla A K Fazlul Huq, who laid down the foundation stone of this historic institution, then known as ‘Bengal Agricultural Institute’. With a history of transformations, SAU has become the 17th public university of the country in 2001. Over nearly a hundred years, SAU has grown into a multi-disciplinary, comprehensive university with agriculture and Agribusiness in the center point. Since inception, the institution has made outstanding contributions to our nation, especially to agricultural production and food security. From 1938 hitherto, our university has a total number of more than 7000 graduates, more than 1000 Master’s degree. Graduates can be found everywhere in the country and abroad and contributing tremendously to feed the universe. It is now adopting Animal & veterinary science and Fisheries faculties with distinctive features.
At SAU, undergraduate and graduate programs are developing concurrently, with teaching and research as the two central tasks. There are 2 Bachelor’s programs provided for undergraduate. Besides, the university offers Master’s programs and Doctoral programs. At present there are more than 390 faculty and staff at SAU, including 30 full professors and 34 associate professors. The campus houses modern teaching spaces, excellent library and other campus facilities including accommodation for approximately 2000 undergraduate and more than 500 graduate students.
Benefited from geological location, SAU has been actively building national academic exchanges and co-operations with other academic and research organizations in the country and abroad. It has established inter-institutional ties with leading research organizations of the country. Every year numbers of foreign scholars come here to make academic exchanges and to give lectures. In addition, our university has been sending teachers and researchers to other countries for short-term training, education and cooperative research
| History: The Faculty of Agribusiness Management at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University started its journey from 2006. Faculty of Agribusiness Management consists of following five departments: (1)Agricultural Economics, (2) Agricultural Statistics, (3)Agribusiness & Marketing, (4) Management & Finance, (5) Development & Poverty Studies. After establishment, the then Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A.M. Farooque acted as the first Dean (in-charge) of this faculty. On 22nd January, 2008 Prof. Wasefa Akhter Zahan was appointed as the 2nd Dean of this faculty and performed her duties as dean till her sudden death on 2nd May, 2008. Then Prof. Md. Zakir Hossain took over the charge of the Dean of the faculty on 7th May, 2008 and continuing till date. |

| Each of the degree is a four-year programme divided into 8 academic semesters. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| There are two regular semesters (Semester I and Semester II) in an academic year. The semester I will start in January and semester II in July of each academic year. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| For the candidates failed in maximum two courses, there will be make up examination at the end of each semester final examination. A student obtained ‘F’ grades in one or two courses (maximum) in a semester will be allowed to enroll in the next semester if his/her GPA is 2.5 or above. However, he/she will have a second chance to sit for first makeup examination (final) of the failed course(s) paying required fees. If failed agian in tge first make-up examination, he/she will be allowed to sit for 2nd makeup examination paying required fees. If a student fails to clear ‘F’ grade(s) in his/her 1st and 2nd makeup examinations he/she will back to the failed semester. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| As a part of the‘academic curriculum students at levels 3 & 4 are required to perform study tour for enriching their practical knowledge. In addition students have to perform Farm & Home Visit, Agricultural Survey, Visit to Research Organizations, Extension Organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) and a weeklong Extension Field Trip at Upazilla level as the practical assignments of the Department of Agricultural Extension and Information System. |

| SAU Research System (SAURES) |
| SAU Research System (SAURES) is headed by a Director. He is assisted by a Senior Scintific Officer and two Scientific Officers. It accounts for advanced studies and research, evaluate and approve and monitor research proposals. The SAU Research System also coordinates the over all research activities of the university. The System arranges seminars and workshops involving teachers and eminent scientists. SAU Research System is going to publish Abstracts of the approved thesis of M.S Students of SAU. SAURES publishes a scientific Journal named “Journal of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Research System”. |
